How to Prepare for Moving Day with Pets
Furniture movement changes the familiar layout while doors stay open. Plan pet care separately from loading so neither you nor the crew has to improvise around an animal in the stairwell.
The short answer
Arrange a secure place for pets away from open doors and the loading route, and put one adult in charge of their care. Keep food, medication, carriers and records with you. Tell the movers where pets will be, and ask your veterinarian about any travel or health needs before moving day.
Decide where pets will spend the loading period
Choose an arrangement that suits the animal: a trusted carer, an appropriate boarding arrangement or a secure room the crew will not enter. Confirm the plan before the moving date. Put a clear sign on a closed room and tell the crew directly rather than relying on the sign alone.
Assign one person to manage the pet, its supplies and any transfer between locations. If that person also has to direct furniture placement, name a backup. Avoid handing the responsibility informally from one busy helper to another.
Keep supplies outside the main shipment

Update the details that help you reconnect
Review identification and contact details before the move and update them through the relevant provider. Save the usual veterinary contact and identify an appropriate practice near the new home. Ask that practice about registration and record-transfer arrangements directly.
On the day, tell the moving coordinator when the pet leaves the property and where it will be during unloading. A brief, clear handoff is easier to follow than several helpers making different assumptions about an open door.
