What labor-only moving help includes
Labor-only is the service for people who already have the truck, the container or the storage unit and need the crew, the equipment and the loading plan to go with it. Here is what it covers and when it is the right call.
The short answer
With labor-only help, you supply the vehicle or the container and the movers supply the people, the dollies, the straps and the know-how to load it so nothing shifts. It covers rental truck loading and unloading, PODS and storage containers, storage units, and moving furniture within a home. It does not include transport.
Plenty of moves do not need a moving truck from the company. You may have rented one yourself, or booked a container that gets picked up later, or you are only moving things from one floor to another. What those moves still need is people who know how to lift a sofa through a doorway and how to load a truck so the load does not collapse on the first hard brake.
That is labor-only help. It is one of the seven services Major Movers lists, and it is the one people most often misunderstand, in both directions.
What the crew brings and what you bring
The split is simple. You bring the truck, the trailer, the container or the storage unit. Major Movers brings the crew, the dollies, the straps, the blankets and stretch wrap for furniture protection, and a plan for how the load goes in. The crew carries, wraps, loads, secures and unloads. It does not drive your rental, and it does not supply the vehicle.
Boxes and packing materials are a question to settle when you book. If you want the crew to pack as well as load, that is the packing and unpacking service and can be combined with labor-only help on the same job.
The four jobs it is built for
Rental truck loading and unloading is the most common. You have the truck for a day and want it loaded properly before a long drive, or unloaded quickly at the other end so it can go back. A loaded truck that was packed tight and strapped arrives with everything where it started; one that was loaded loose does not.
Containers come next: a POD or storage container dropped in your driveway that will be collected and either stored or delivered. Those are loaded once and ride a long way, so the loading order and the strapping matter even more than in a truck. Storage units are the third case, in and out. The fourth is moving furniture within a home: rearranging rooms, bringing something up from a basement, shifting heavy pieces for flooring work.

When labor-only is the right choice
It fits when the transport is already solved. A long-distance move where you are driving the rental yourself. A container move where the container company handles the haul. A storage run. A single heavy item that needs three sets of hands and no truck at all. In each of these, paying for a moving truck you will not use makes no sense, and paying for a crew to do the part that hurts makes a lot of it.

How to get the most out of a labor-only crew
Have the vehicle or container on site and open when the crew arrives, with the ramp down and the path from the door clear. Finish the packing first; a labor crew loading around unpacked rooms is the slow, expensive version of the job. Tell the company in advance about stairs, long carries, and the heaviest pieces so the right equipment is on the truck.
If the load is going a long way, say so. A load that is coming off again the same afternoon is packed differently from one that will sit in a container for two months, and the crew will pack it for the journey it is actually taking.

Before a labor-only crew arrives
