Which Fits: Full-Service or Labor-Only Moving?
The decision starts with who is responsible for the vehicle. Once that is clear, it is easier to compare cost, preparation and the number of schedules you need to coordinate.

The short answer
Choose moving service with transport when you want the mover to handle the vehicle as part of the agreed job. Choose labor-only help when you already have a rental truck, container or an in-home lifting job. Confirm packing, equipment, driving and help at the second address separately in either case.
A move with transport has one less handoff
For a house or apartment move, a service that includes transport can put loading, driving and unloading into one agreed scope. Packing is still a separate question. Ask which rooms are included, who supplies materials and whether furniture disassembly is part of the estimate.
Major Movers lists local and residential moving across Connecticut. Give both addresses and the access details before booking. The phrase “full service” is used differently by different companies, so describe the work you want instead of relying on the label.
Labor-only puts the rental arrangements with you
With labor-only help, you arrange the truck or container and its arrival. Confirm the loading ramp, parking position and the equipment you need to supply. If you drive a rental truck, the rental agreement, vehicle route and return deadline remain your responsibilities.
In Connecticut, do not assume a car’s navigation route is suitable for a moving truck. Check CTDOT’s parkway restrictions and the rental company’s guidance. Tell the crew about the actual vehicle and access rather than booking lifting help around an unconfirmed rental.
Match the option to the difficult part
If the difficult part is carrying a sofa down a walk-up and you already have suitable transport, labor-only help may fit. If you need transport as well as loading and unloading, request a local-moving estimate. If the problem is unpacked cupboards, discuss packing support before choosing either.
An in-home furniture rearrangement needs no moving truck at all. Describe the items, stairs and destination rooms so the team can assess the work. Avoid paying for a service category when a clear description would make the actual need easier to understand.
Coordinate both ends before the first box moves
A loading crew at the old home does not automatically include unloading at the new one. Name both addresses and ask for confirmation of each stage. For a container, allow for the provider’s delivery and collection windows rather than treating them as exact arrival times.
Compare the complete plan: vehicle rental, equipment, loading help, unloading help and the time you must manage yourself. Keep the two estimates alongside the same inventory so the choice reflects the full job.
Before you confirm the move
- Confirm who supplies and drives the vehicle.
- Check equipment and packing responsibilities.
- Arrange help at each address.
- Share vehicle and building access details.
Common questions
General guidance. Your own route, date and access still need confirming directly.
Does Major Movers labor-only service include a truck?
No. You supply the truck or container. The crew handles the agreed loading, unloading or in-home work.
Is packing automatically included with transport?
No assumption should be made. Request packing explicitly and confirm the rooms, materials and schedule in the estimate.
Can I hire help only to unload?
Unloading is a listed labor-only service. Share your arrival plan, vehicle and property access with the team.
Can movers drive my rental truck?
Do not assume that driving is included in a labor-only booking. Confirm driving arrangements with the rental provider and the moving company before booking.
